The
first french SlingShot was the Darth Vader, since this time forces were
beefed up, Patrick Olivaud have built his digger based on my first
frame, witch one I bought to Martin Brown at York raceway (What have he
becommed ?). An other pilot living in Swistzerland,
Philippe Costis, is about to finish the construction of a project based
on a BBC572CI for an 2011 early year. An english driver set up in France
is also the owner of one of these old style machine.
The Front Engine Dragsters were the forgetten style and suddenly they are living their coming back. Rare picture Monthléry 2 french SlingShots versus each other. First lane Alain Vial driving his brand new dragster fresly painted and finished, this car was pretty in his pink coating, infortunatly equiped of a small PRV engine. What's happened to this machine ? In this qualification run, the Darth Vader on far lane haved started with 10 meters behind, at the finished line, logic was respected. |

Nostalgia drag, nostalgia picture. Arriving from England, the Darth Vader fuel's thirst force us to a visit to the Vern Sur Seiche' refinery. Spontaneously my friend Laurent S. sponsored the dragster, thanks to him and to ASC Informatique. the machine was magnificent in his white coat, after beeing in black with an orange and yellow flamming, at march 2010 it have recovered his original white. The back of the drag was made of shells, later I have made a front casing. Note the large capacity tank, was it built for methanol or nitro suppliyng ? The genie in the bottle Guiscriff (Brittany) Joël, my brother is operating. First test of the famous sensation of the kicking shot to the ' Revr ' (breton word delicate to translate, prononced Rrerrr). The opening of the NOS manual valve, is made just before the run for security reasons. At the end of the run the bottle is immediatly closed, the least leak may cause an explosion at the time of a new engine ignition, the carburator will be the first victim of this occurence. Guy the chief crew had slipped into the second pilot's suit, he made a run. Great day for him ! |

Smoky run Huy (Belgium) A few meters later breakage force the dragster to dropped out. Under the engine's fury, the left axle broke and the right one twisted. Now's the time for changing axles. During the burn out, 750 HPs rages on only one side and works wonders, the right wheels is now alone to make smoke. Seen from this side of the track the dragster is "burning" like a Top-Fuel. Nobody on the starting zone is aware of the breakage, and I start for the smokiest run of my life. On board everything was abnormal, only the right side smoking, redzone early reached, second gear passed to lower RPM, 2 steering changes and finally the good decision "Cut off". |
