Nostalgia dragsters

DSS1
Honnor to the most beautiful of them.
This picture is pirated from the Patrick Olivaud's blog, which I remind : http://dss.blog4ever.com/blog/index-61098.html His mérit is undeniable, the project initiate 10 years before is born by a dream : to built a slingshot. We met us and I decided to help him.
The contract was simple "You take my old frame, if you don't do anything with it, bring it me back !" Pat' is gone to the end of his dream.
Pushed by all his friends he have now crossed the border between building and driving.
He is supported by all the friends and the familly and his girlfriend who share his emotions on the track.
I'va made a small movie at Lurcy Lévy raceway.

His blog must be visited.
Stig Olsson (suedish pilot )

Take a peep at the front of the dragster, implied reference to a northern pleasant animal.
Racing in nostalgia dragsters is very popular on USA.
We can see very famous machines.
In Europe it's a little bit more rare, but who knows ? Maybe one day we will see slingshots championship.

Stigolsson

StephanyMilam Stephany Milam

English Pilot, her dragster is named "She Devil".

Distinctive feather of slingshots is to present the engine installed in front of the driver, who is sat behind the rear end, legs put above the rear axles.
This assembly doesn't allow visibility.
Other drags are using this engine's assembly but the pilot is sat on the rear end, they are the altereds (see the Topolino below)

Chemical beast

Maybe powered by a Small Block Chevy. This drag seems to be very shorty.
Originality is built on the special face suiting of the pilot. Such a mug !
Slingshot ! Who is sat at the stone place ?

Suedois

Suedois2 Visibility

Some slingshots gives correct visibility !
Big "Don Garlitts" daddy said "The best dragster should be a slingshot with the blower in front of the engine offering good visibility".
Front is strange, only one link bar (no wishbone).
Infrequent too, the mono-wheelie-bar, installed so high wheelings are always possible.

Is there only Slingshots on tracks ? For sure not !

Topolino
Topolino

There are others dragracing nostalgia styles, here it is a different one, this Topolino is appeared in France after have been bought in England. Powered by a Chrysler 440 its frame was shorty making it skiding from left to right in the burn out procedure.
The style appart at the
altered catégory.

Live sceene :

2 old cogers are turning around the car (sold in France under the name of  Simca 8). They are remaining their youth time.
"As far as I remenber, at the origin the wheels were smallers !"
Sharp observation !
Streetrebel Traction avant Citroën
This other Altered was the Jacky Barbier's dragster, also came from England. The extreme reduced body evocates the famous Citroen "Traction Avant" model, first french car moved by the front wheels, rather beeing specialist or having good imagination ? Up to you to judge. From the car builder's paradize André Citroën is thinking : "Is the old legend of  the V8 "Traction" borned by this UFO ?".
This car was specially pretty, fine visual and sizes result. It was powered by a 303 CI and had 1480 Lbs (670Kg) weight.

October 2010 I have seen the Street Rebel , allways so nice !

Juva 4 Renault

Remenber the Jean Dulamon's green apple Juva !
This car is also a Juva, also an Altered,  also for our happyness on the tracks.

It's amazing to see old-look machines on dragracing-strips, Ford 32-34, Ford T, Willys and other cars from 40's to 60's. Everything is possible from Corvettes to Cadillac 1959 62's type.
Take your favorite car and put inside a muscled V8 with the Aga Khan's cavalery, And now it's up to you ! Foot on floor.
Juva

GDemont
Santa Pod

In 1997 on "Pod Track" Dennis Wratten's Topolino and in board of the  "Diable" : Gérard Demont. With a name like this, a so called dragster.

Always and already an altered.

The faithful friend.

Christophe on board of the 1964's Oldsmobile Cutlass F85 which belong to his brother. This car was mine before the baught of the dragster.
Christophe is a mecanic millipede.
At Guiscriff testing the Christmas Tree.

Olds2
Moteurolds On left the first Oldsmobile original engine

It was a 330 C.I. replaced now by a SBC

Was this little engine abble to defeat the Darth Vader's Big Block 454 C.I. ?
